In Australia, the Omicron BA2 subvariant has essentially replaced BA1 as the cause of the current cases of COVID, says Professor Kristine Macartney.

Speaking on Healthed’s latest webcast, Professor Macartney from the National Centre for Immunisation, Research and Surveillance, said two years into the pandemic we are currently experiencing our second peak, with record-high numbers of cases per 100,000 people being diagnosed But fortunately the current Omicron infection does not appear as severe as the original SARS-CoV-2 strains.
